We'll help provide the care your cat needs

At Hastings Veterinary Hospital, we’ll help you provide the care your adult pet needs to be healthy, fit, and happy. Our services include preventative treatment programs, surgeries, checkups, and emergency care when required.

Adult Cats

Need Annual Checkups

Adult cats (ages 1-7), whether or not they are strictly indoors, are recommended to receive an annual examination. Annual checkups can benefit both you and your cat by catching early signs of illnesses and health problems.

Cats of all ages are known for their ability to conceal any physical problem, whether it is pain or illness. Early detection during an examination can often save your pet from any unnecessary suffering, and save you money with early treatment.

Senior Cats and Health Screening

Cats older than 7 are more at risk for developing chronic health conditions like kidney disease and hyperthyroidism. During your pet’s annual exam, your vet will discuss screening tests that will aid in early detection of these conditions. If your pet already has a chronic illness, your vet will discuss any health tests required to properly monitor and manage your pet’s condition.

What to Expect

During a Checkup

Your veterinarian will conduct a full physical examination and evaluate the following:

  • Heart – to listen to its rhythm and heart rate and detect murmurs
  • Lungs – to listen for any unusual sounds
  • Abdomen – to feel for signs of pain, or abnormal size and shape of various organs
  • Eyes – to detect early signs of eye problems, including cataracts in older cats
  • Ears – to check for infection or parasites
  • Teeth – to look for gum disease or tooth injuries
  • Weight – to track possible obesity or unexplained weight loss
  • Skin and Coat – to look external parasites, fungal and bacterial infections
  • Musculoskeletal system – for signs of injury or illness

You will also be asked about your pet’s behaviour, grooming, and eating habits as well as any concerns you may have.

They will receive any vaccinations they require based on their lifestyle, and a comprehensive parasite and flea prevention program will be discussed.
